eBook Cover & Print Book Cover Design
As above but also ‘print on demand’ artwork. Most authors use Create Space for this service as it links well with Amazon.
I can also design and produce Facebook pages, twitter backgrounds, blogs & websites. Just ask me for a quote.
Tell me about your book:
Next I’ll need to know about your book: Title, sub-title (if you are having one) and author name. Is it non-fiction or fiction? What Amazon categories will it go in (you can put the book in two). A brief synopsis/blurb. Details of any key scenes you think I maybe able to take inspiration from. Its also useful to get an idea of what you like so I also ask for a couple book coves you like, they can be from any genre.
Over to me:
Once I have all the above information I can start designing the book cover. From start to finish the process normally takes around two weeks, sometimes it can be quicker. First I research the Amazon categories the book will be in so I can get a good feel for the genre and see what the best sellers are. After some chin stroking and general pondering I’ll begin the design process. This involves image and illustration research, selection and often purchasing new on-trend typefaces (fonts).
During the design process I’m constantly checking how the designs work at the different sized used by Amazon. Its really import that the design is clear at the tiny thumbnail size but also looks good when shown large. All my designs are bespoke, I don’t have ‘off the shelf’ designs like some other cover designers, my price includes photo library images/illustrations.
Back to you:
After a few days of blood & sweat I’ll send back 3-5 book cover design options for you to select from. Once a cover design is decided upon I’ll make any minor amends required. Then, once the final cover design is aproved I’ll send you a jpg of the ebook cover upload to kpd. If you are having a ‘print on demand’ cover, I’ll need to know the size of the book you’d like. There are lots of options on create space, most authors go for 5″ x 8″. Next Ill need the spine width – this is easy to get, you just put the number of pages into the calculator and it’ll give you a figure in inches which you pass on to me. Also I’ll need the blurb for the back cover, once I have everything I need I’ll send you a PDF to upload to create space.
Case Study – The Brighton Maverick
Below is a example of a recent project to give you an idea of what to expect.
Title: The Brighton Maverick
Author: Scott Chadwick
Sub-title: n/a
Genre: Fiction
Amazon Categories: Fiction, Gay & Lesbian
Potential Inspiration: Brighton Pier, Brighton sea front, Little shops.
Synopsis/blurb: Inspired by my own experiences of running a shop in the heart of Brighton’s Lanes, the book tells the story of Rick Matthews, a twenty-something decorator who, desperate to get away from his abusive boyfriend, seeks refuge with his best friend, Becky. Told in a series of short, punchy chapters, The Brighton Maverick explores this close-knit community by interweaving the tales of a handful of seemingly unrelated characters. The key message of this tale is one of friendship, of our need to support each other through whatever life throws at us and of love, in whatever form it happens to take. It’s very much inspired by the story telling of Armistead Maupin in his Tales of the City series of books.
